The First Days of the Texas Legislative Session: What to Expect

The 89th Legislative Session begins on Tuesday, January 14th, kicking off with critical decisions that shape the months ahead. Among the first orders of business, House lawmakers will elect a Speaker, while both chambers will adopt procedural rules to guide their legislative activities. These early actions establish the framework and tone for the session, laying the groundwork for the policies and debates to come.
